About

St. Nicholas has become known for our delicious variety of ethnic foods through our St. Nicholas Festival and at the West Tennessee Farmer's Market. We specialize in foods from Greece, Russia, and the Middle East. Get Notifications whenever we are hosting or participating in events around Jackson!

Tell me about your food.

The GREEK spanakopita and baklava are both made from phyllo dough provided by the owners of Grecian Family Restaurant! Spanakopita is made with spinach and feta, and baklava is a sweet, non-dairy dessert. Don’t miss Nick’s Greek salad, tossed fresh by Nick himself with oil and spices. Our RUSSIAN piroshki are made with beef and dill from Elaine’s grandma's recipe, served with sour cream. Freshly-made JORDANIAN hummus is better than anything you can buy in stores. If you haven't had it made from scratch, you have to try Emily's! The SYRIAN dessert halva means "sweet." Its made from sesame paste, tahini, and cocoa with a wonderful, crumbly texture. The Syrian food represents our Patriarch, His Beatitude John X, who lives in Damascus, Syria.

So why do you have so many different ethnic foods, anyway?

The Orthodox Church is a global church! St. Nicholas is under the jurisdiction of the Church of Antioch in Syria, where "they were first called Christians." (Acts 11:26) However, since we are the only Orthodox Church in Jackson, Orthodox families from a variety of nationalities and heritages attend our parish - like Greeks, Russians, Jordanians, Serbians, and Americans! This is a common occurrence in America, as we work toward building an American Orthodox Church, and it gives us a diverse community built around a common, ancient Christian faith.

And it means a lot of great food whenever we get together! So come try some food and meet the community at St. Nicholas!
